I decided to paint this mallard because I was wanting to expand my collection of wildlife/nature paintings – as a bird watcher and nature lover myself. My hope was to have it ready to enter in the exhibition in early 2019, but I missed the deadline.
I love the effectiveness of the colours and reflection. I love the eye. I’m pleased with the realism I managed to achieve with this painting. I’m proud of this painting.
For me, art gives me peace and serenity that I struggle to find elsewhere. It’s an opportunity for me to express myself. I’m still discovering my artistic voice but this painting encouraged me to keep going with it. Not only that, but my love of God (as creator of all things), my love of people, places, animals and birds is the thread that ties all of my artwork together.
I used my own photograph, of a mallard at Swan Lakes in Yateley, as a reference photo for this painting. Swan Lakes is where I visit most often. It’s a local series of lakes and woodland and I often see a variety of wildlife there. I often see: Mallards, Cormorants, Herons, Robins, Deer, Gadwell, Moorhens, Canada Geese, Swans, Coots and much more. Red Kites often dance in circles overhead. It’s the most peaceful place near where I live, so I enjoy visiting greatly.
If you would like it hanging on a wall in your house then I'd love for you to purchase this beautiful and original piece of artwork. Once bought I will arrange shipping of your painting.
