The story behind this Boundaries Christian Greeting Card...
For this Boundaries Christian Greeting Card, I used a print of the painting 'Boundaries'. It is the second painting in a new collection of faith-based discipleship abstract paintings.
Boundaries play an important part in discipleship. Some are ridged and firm, others are soft and float around hardly noticed - like bubbles. Boundaries, in their best form, aren't for punishment, rejection or exclusion.
Here is an excerpt from my upcoming book, '...I think that what I can see (dimly) is that there is a difference between boundaries and rejection. This distinction, however, is relatively new to me. When people have put firmer boundaries in place, I have felt it as intense rejection and great loss – like a wall put up to separate. The mental health disorders that I’m recovering from, have a link, at least in part, to the extremes of unhealthy and damaging boundaries that I have experienced... The reason that boundaries features in this book are because it’s complex! Also, despite the pressure to have boundaries sorted out by the time one turns 18, the truth is that people struggle with setting healthy and appropriate boundaries for themselves, and in relationships with others, no matter how old they are. Part of the reason that boundaries, within the framework of discipleship, is so complex is that there are so many factors to consider. (© 2020, Hannah Kirk)

What are boundaries?
If you're particularly interested in boundaries then I'd recommend reading the book, 'Boundaries' by Dr Henry Cloud and Dr John Townsend. In its simplest form boundaries are where you draw the line around yourself.
It's the things that you will say 'yes' or 'no' to. It's where you draw the line in your relationships and their treatment of you. It includes both physical and emotional boundaries and can be used constructively within healthy relationships. Boundaries can also include moral and financial boundaries as well.
